Foundations of Meditation

Truth alert:
Meditation is hard to do.

It’s even harder when you don’t understand what you’re doing — or why you’re doing it — or if you have a dozen unanswered questions.

How do I choose which meditation to do when?

I still have racing thoughts, so what am I doing wrong?

Should I breathe this way, or that way?

Meditation is also a challenge to stick with, because…

It's tough to invest your precious time into something you don’t understand.

If you’ve been dabbling for a while, or struggling with starting or keeping up a meditation practice — consider learning the foundations first.

Once you know the basics, you'll gain confidence, motivation, and - most significantly - the freedom to adapt your meditation when life gets busier and crazier, rather than quit it completely.

In Foundations of Meditation, you'll learn meditation in a way that is honest and accessible, and gives you the real skills you need to create a sustainable meditation practice - even if you've struggled with it in the past.

Foundations of Meditation is a 4-Week Workshop Series

 About Katie

There are so many different methods and approaches to meditation, I think it's important you know where I am coming from.

I've been teaching yoga and meditation for over 10 years, and believe in the power of creating a practice that is both personal (individualized to you, your needs, and your life) and practical.

My approach is rooted on the tantric hatha yoga tradition, and the understanding that the whole human experience is an opportunity for growth, expansion, and healing.

To me, this means that our yoga and/or meditation practices are meant to be a part of our real lives, not at odds with it. Meditation should support and sustain us, not become a source of guilt or shame.

The techniques I teach include body awareness, breathwork (pranayama), visualization, and development of focus (dharana). I see these as tools for deepening your most significant relationship - with your self.

After taking your meditation course, I feel like I have more understanding about how to focus, refocus, and integrate the concepts into everyday life. I can honestly say I am more relaxed at work and take better care of myself on my days off.

Cathie B.

I felt my practice has been steadily improving but I still had much room to grow. Now, I feel more empowered and structured. It’s been a very stressful and anxiety inducing start to 2021, so this was the perfect way to lay the foundation for practice moving forward.

Sean L.

Before taking Foundations of Meditation, my meditation practice was wildly inconsistent and felt like I was missing some essential piece, but I had no clue what it was. Now, I feel like I'm less judgmental with myself about it. I also feel like I can be more flexible with my process, knowing I have tools I can use anytime and anywhere.

– Erika T.

Frequently Asked Questions

I can't make all the dates live, will there be recordings?

Yes, all the sessions will be recorded and will live in a neat + tidy online portal (Teachable) that you can access via desktop or the Teachable app. And you'll have access to all recordings and materials indefinitely.

I've practiced [particular type of meditation] before.

What style are you teaching? My approach is rooted in the tantric hatha yoga system. I focus on embodiment, breathwork, visualization, and mindfulness.

What's the difference between breathwork and meditation? What if I'm only interested in one?

In short, breathwork is about shaping and guiding your breath. Meditation is about shaping and guiding your attention. Breathwork is often used to prepare for meditation. Sometimes, these things are practiced simultaneously. We'll cover both (and how they help each other) so you can ultimately choose what works for you.

Will there be yoga?

Yes, a little. Each workshop includes a movement + meditation practice. Plus, as a bonus, you'll get 2 full yoga videos that are excellent pre-meditation practices.

I've never had success with a daily meditation practice before. How will this be different?

It's different because the goal is not to have "daily meditation practice" but rather to have a practice that works for you, supports you, and that you enjoy.
