Here’s what you’ve probably heard about meditation:

  • It helps with stress and anxiety.

  • It’s good for your heart health.

  • It’s about emptying your mind and sitting in silence.

  • It’s something you “should” be doing every day.

Here’s what you’ve probably not heard about meditation:

  • It’s not always intuitive or easy.

  • When you’re struggling with it, it can often make you feel more stressed, anxious, or even angry.

  • Your breath is super important for accessing your inner calm.

  • It can mean more than just sitting cross-legged and silent (although that’s cool too).

  • It doesn’t need to be for 20 minutes, or even every single day, for it to be effective.

 Hi! I’m Katie.

(pronouns: she/her)

I help stressed out people create personalized breathwork + meditation practices for relaxation and self-nourishment, so that they can reconnect with their inner chill.

I’ve taught yoga, breath, and meditation for 10+ years, and I’ve seen some things.

The saddest thing I’ve witnessed was someone so hellbent on perfecting her yoga + meditation practice that her mental health deteriorated. Instead of feeling accomplished and calm, she felt shame and guilt for every skipped day or wandering thought.

It was me. I was that sad story.

And once I saw it in myself, I started seeing it in lots of other practitioners too:

  • The feeling of never practicing enough

  • The shame that they were bad at meditating because they couldn’t stop their thoughts (as if that were actually possible)

  • The conclusion that meditation just wasn’t for them because they felt confused or challenged, and didn’t receive the compassionate support or explanations that they needed

  • And every day gone by where they didn’t do “it” just added to an enormous weight of guilt they were carrying.

I zoomed out and realized: WTF?

Why are we weaponizing our wellness practices against ourselves?

(The answer: Patriarchy. White supremacy. Grind culture. Ugh.)

For my own practice, I lowered my expectations and started to be way more kind to myself about what I could do.

For the folks who show up to my classes, I taught them how to actually slow down, how to use their breath as their greatest ally, and how to appreciate the small shifts that occur in each practice.

Now, I use a blend of intentional movement, breathwork, and meditation to help people create a personal practice that supports and sustains them.

No guilt.

No shame.

No unrealistic goals.

The nerdy stuff:

I studied yoga with Yogiraj Alan Finger at ISHTA Yoga, and am a 500-hour Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher.

Translation: I’ve taught a lot.

Still, being a student is my happy place. I’ve done various trainings in restorative yoga, subtle anatomy, therapeutic yoga, breathwork and self-massage. I continue to study with Yogarupa Rod Stryker (Parayoga), Kristin Leal (MetaAnatomy), and Jill Miller (YogaTuneUp), and others.

I have deep respect for the traditions and origins of Hatha Yoga. I aim to honor this history while also innovating and helping to make these tools accessible and available to people who need them.
